CFexpress Type B Compatible Cameras: Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic

Short answer: CFexpress Type B cards are for cameras and readers with a CFexpress Type B slot. The CompactFlash Association says Type B is "compatible with select cameras by Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Nikon, and Sony". Below are the models we have checked against the maker's own manual or support page, with a link so you can confirm each one yourself.
A camera with a CFexpress Type B slot does not mean every recording mode works with every Type B card. Each maker sets its own card requirements per mode; check your camera's manual before you record. We do not promise any specific recording mode on any camera.
1. Cameras with a CFexpress Type B slot

"Type B + SD" means the camera has one CFexpress Type B slot and one SD slot.
What the makers say, in their own words:
- Canon: each manual's Compatible Cards page lists "CFexpress cards: Type-B compatible". The EOS R1 page lists only CFexpress cards; the other Canon models above also list "SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards".
- Nikon: the Z9 manual says "The camera can be used with CFexpress (Type B) and XQD memory cards". The Z8 and Z6III manuals say "CFexpress (Type B), XQD, SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards".
- Fujifilm: the compatibility pages list "CFexpress Type B card 64GB – 2TB" alongside SD, SDHC and SDXC cards.
- Panasonic: the manuals say "Card slot 1: CFexpress card (CFexpress Ver.2.0 Type B) (64 GB to 2 TB)" and "Card slot 2: SD memory card".
If your camera is not listed, it may still have a Type B slot; check its own manual. We only list models we could confirm on an official page.
2. Cameras that look similar but do not use Type B

- Nikon Zf: its manual says it "can be used with SD, SDHC, SDXC, microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC memory cards". It has no CFexpress slot.
- Sony: many current Sony cameras use CFexpress Type A instead. See our CFexpress Type A compatible cameras list.

3. Before you record

- Check the card requirement for your mode. Makers set requirements per format. For example, Canon's EOS R5 Mark II manual says: "When recording movies, use a CFexpress card that supports VPG400 or a card with ample performance". Our cards do not claim VPG certification.
- Some formats need the Type B slot. Panasonic's GH7 and S1RII manuals list video types that "cannot be recorded to SD cards. Use CFexpress cards."
- Capacity limits. Canon's EOS R5 Mark II support page says: "You cannot use CFexpress cards with a capacity larger than 2TB." Panasonic and Fujifilm list 64 GB to 2 TB.
- Format in the camera. Canon: "If the card is new or was previously formatted (initialized) by another camera or computer, format it with this camera." See How to format a memory card in camera.
- Firmware. Keep camera firmware current; our product pages ask you to confirm your camera firmware before ordering.

FAQ
Which cameras use CFexpress Type B cards?
The CompactFlash Association says Type B is used in select cameras by Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Nikon and Sony. The table above lists the Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic models we confirmed on each maker's official manual or support page.
Which cameras have a CFexpress Type B slot and an SD slot?
Among the models we checked: Canon EOS R3, EOS R5, EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R6 Mark III and EOS R6 V; Nikon Z8 and Z6III; Fujifilm X-H2S, X-H2 and GFX100 II; and Panasonic LUMIX GH7, S1RII and S1II.
Can I use an XQD card in a Nikon Type B camera?
Nikon's manuals for the Z9, Z8 and Z6III list XQD cards as usable. The CompactFlash Association notes that CFexpress Type B cards have the same dimensions and connector as XQD cards.
Will a CFexpress Type B card work in every recording mode?
Not necessarily. Each maker lists card requirements per recording format, and some modes ask for VPG400 or a minimum speed. Our cards do not claim VPG certification, so check your camera's manual first.
Should I format a new Type B card in the camera?
Yes. Canon, Nikon and Panasonic manuals tell you to format a card in the camera if it was formatted on a computer or another device. Back up anything you need first, because formatting erases the card.
